Data Center Growth and Proposed Moratorium
Residents packed the room urging the Board to pause data center and fracking development while the county writes protective standards. The Board agreed to have staff bring a moratorium framework to the April 6 work session — nothing is adopted yet.
FY 2026-27 Budget and 5-Cent Tax Increase
The board adopted a $128.3 million budget with no property tax increase, but only after a sharp debate. Opponents warned that covering recurring costs like the EMS contract with one-time fund balance money means a tax increase is likely next year.
FY 2027-2031 Capital Improvements Plan
The five-year capital plan recommends three school projects next year but pushes the new law enforcement center beyond the window to avoid a debt-driven tax increase. A new elementary school in 2030-31 would need about 3 cents if delayed.
EMS Contract Uncertainty
A 19-year public safety veteran warned the county may have no EMS provider after June 30, or one at a much higher cost, and said his public records request about contract negotiations has gone unanswered. Residents urged the board not to take the lowest bidder.
